Frome 1st XI end pre season

Warminster 1st XI won by 5 wickets

Frome 1st XI – 227-9 all out (50 overs)

Warminster 1st XI – 228-5 (31.1 overs)

Frome 1st XI finished their pre-season fixtures off with a defeat to Warminster, however there was valuable game time to a number of players who were yet to play in 2022.

Frome for the second time this season won the toss and decided to bat first, looking for their batters to gain time in the middle following their low score last time out. However, both openers were dismissed with the score on 29. This brought the Croker brothers together who looked to play positively against the Warminster spin bowlers. Both brothers played well until Reece Croker was softly dismissed for 18.

Sam Croker continued to bat brilliantly even when their were wickets falling at the other end and eventually fell for a classy 80. Mark Watts finished the innings off well for Frome with a well made 27 not out, leaving Warminster requiring 228 to win.

In reply, the host got off to a flyer going over a run a ball for the first 10 overs. The overly excitable Tenty was the first man to go for 36, bowled by Watts. This didn’t stop Edwards or Pearce continuing to score quickly.

It was only the introduction of captain Mark Sanger who gained some control and pride to the Frome fielding performance, who picked up three wickets in his 8 overs. Edwards took the game away from Frome with an excellent 111, however it could have been a different story if Frome fielders took multiple opportunities to remove him earlier on.

Warminster eventually took the win by 5 wickets, leaving Frome winless in pre-season, however will be happy after a tough run out.

Next week Frome host Weston Super Mare in the first league game of the 2022 campaign looking to get off to a good start and hopefully build some momentum for another excellent season.
