1's Lose Weston-Super-Mare Opener

Frome 1st XI started their 2022 league campaign with a home defeat to Weston Super Mare in a hard fought contest.

Frome won the toss and decided to bat on a warm day looking to post a big total and kick start their season. In the first four overs, it looked like Frome were set to post the total they were looking for as both openers Paul Sanger and Lewis got off to a flyer as they managed to score 34, however it started to quickly turn in the visitors favour when three quick wickets fell with the total on 59.

In form Sam Croker (40) and Dan Lock (31) led the fight back for the hosts with a decent partnership of 42, but once Croker was bowled, it led to the Frome innings drastically falling away as they were eventually bowled out for 149, one short of another batting point.

In reply, Frome got off the perfect start when Reece Croker removed Elstone (0) in the first over and then bowled former Somerset man Trego for 6, leaving Weston 17-4 and in real trouble.

This brought youngsters Ahmed (41) and Dexter Trego (39) to the crease whos partnership was the vital one in the match, both players played excellent cricket and ran well between the wickets and provided a chance-less partnership of 77 before Trego was caught of the bowling of the impressive Harman.

Frome managed to cause the Weston batters some panic as they took three late wickets, with the visitors still requiring 6 to win. It was left to number 10, Chambers to hit a six down the ground to get Weston over the line in a tight match.

Frome will be looking to bounce back next week as they travel to Ilminster in search of their first win of 2022.
