Tim Leonard and Josh Cantrell both hit fifties as Frome defended well to win at local rivals Leigh-On-Mendip.

Frome 2nd's continued their fine run of form thanks to fifties for Leonard and Cantrell along with a gritty performance in the field.

After winning the toss, skipper Cantrell elected to bat first and he and Leonard built a solid opening partnership of 144. Leonard, dealing some lusty blows, and Cantrell ticking the scoreboard over well was working well for Frome. Cantrell was the man to fall first, caught in the deep trying to up the run rate for a well played 53. Lowe came and went for just 4, but CR Dredge began to add more impetus to the innings, hitting his second ball over the long off boundary for six. Leonard departed though for a strong 80, an innings that included 10 fours and a six. Dredge was joined at the crease with Smart, and they both continued to up the scoring rate. Both of whom departed towards the end of the match for scores of 18 and 35 respectively. Asim scored just one, however Larder and Watts finished unbeaten at the close; Larder with 15, and Watts with 7. Frome's total concluded at 232-6 off their 45 overs.

In response, Leigh started well, with both openers looking good. Asim got the breakthrough for Frome though, caught by Cantrell, wicketkeeper batsmen B Gould departed for 32. He also got Leigh number three, caught by the evergreen Copp, Frome were paving a way back into the match. D Vassili joined opener J Harvey, who was battling on with a runner, and they both looked to be getting Leigh back on top. The dangerous Vassali had a life early on, skying one to midwicket only to be put down. Soon after he hit a huge six over the longest boundary at wide long on. Frome kept working though, and the experienced CR Dredge had Harvey stumped by Copp for 63. Then Woodruff accounted for skipper O Gould for a duck before Phelps came in and looked to be accompanying Vassali well in the latter overs. Vassali then chose his moment to go after Asim to get the runs in the few remaining overs, but he picked out Leonard at cow corner- who made no mistake with the catch this time to all but signal the end of the chase for Leigh. Asim claimed figures of 12-2-45-3. Watts also got a wicket to his name, bowling Brownlow for 2. Phelps finished not out for the hosts along with Lambert with one, to end Leigh's chase on 210-6; 22 runs away from victory.

Next Saturday, Frome 2nd's host Lympsham in a top of the table clash.
