Frome 2s kickstart season with Bradford-on-Avon win

Frome 2s beat Bradford-on-Avon by 108 runs

Frome 2s kicked off the 2022 season with an excellent pre-season win at Bradford-on-Avon. A glorious afternoon at the picturesque Culver Close ground saw a string of good performances, with junior players on both sides excelling.

After winning the toss Frome chose to bat first in the Easter sunshine and openers Callow and Mike Cooper got them off to a quickfire start. After seeing of a bright opening burst from Saunders, Cooper eventually chipped to cover. However Callow (50*) was joined by Unwin (38) in a powerful 2nd wicket stand of 77 to put the Showmen firmly in the ascendancy.

Positive contributions from Veal (34*), Barrow (26) and Cox (31*) boosted the visitors further, whilst a superb innings from youngster Smart (24) helped push Frome up to a strong 257-6 at the interval.

In reply Wheeler (2-26) saw off the dangerous Harrington early, however the home side fought back strongly thanks to a fantastic innings from Milton. Despite an impressive burst from Cox (2-19), the opener exhibited a fine array of crisp drives to reach a deserved half-century and boost Bradford-on-Avon to 127-3.

However the introduction of skipper Potter (3-15) saw Milton chip to cover and an excellent second spell from youngster Ben Cooper (2-25) put the lower order under immense pressure. With the sun setting, a great catch in the deep from Cox finally saw Bradford succumb for 149 in the 37th over, giving Frome a 108-run success.

A great start to the season for the Showmen who now have a week off before their second and final pre-season game at home to Warminster 2s on 30th April.
