Frome's Under 19's, the Frome Falcons, secured a place at Finals Day, after a prolific 10 wicket win at Kilmington Eagles.

After losing the toss, the Falcons were originally put under the pump early on as the visitors advanced to 38 without loss in quick time. Matthew Knight and Mark Watts ensured that matters didn't get out of hand though, bowling tightly early on.

Then, the first breakthrough came when W Batty-Smith plinked Aaron Woodruff to Knight at mid-off, to depart for 23.

This was followed by a calamitous over for the home side. Taylor Angell first claimed the scalp of S Guy-Knapp, for 17, caught by Joe Smart at point.

It was infact front foot no-balls that caused confusion in the Kilmington ranks- Isaac Wood and Smart the prophecies, both with superb fielding to give Frome a brace of run outs. This made the Eagles 50-4.

And after Woodruff had another scalp, again held by Knight, the hosts really bodged an opportunity to cash in on such a good start.

Although, they added 24 for the sixth wicket, before Woodruff (3-15) bowled K Baxter for 7, making it 76-6.

No further meaningful partnership prevailed, and it was muchly because of the leg-spin of Dan Weston, who claimed impressive figures of 3-5.

First, Weston claimed two wickets at the end of his first over- with one stumping from Paddy Hyams and then bowling the following batsmen.

The penultimate Kilmington wicket then fell when skipper Watts, returned to castle fellow captain C Adlem, of whom constructed a valiant 22.

This left Weston to wrap up the innings when after just missing out on hat-trick, he had his third scalp next ball, held by Woodruff, diving at mid-off. Kilmington were all out for just 92, in the 16th over.

In response, Frome looked very composed in the chase. Smart put pressure on the home bowlers, ensuring anything in his arc was dispatched.

He was ably accompanied by Sam Croker, who batted very tidily to remain unbeaten on 25. And even though Smart had to retire having passed a quality fifty- 53 from 25 balls (including 10 fours and a six), Wood continued the good work.

Croker and Wood (5 not out) saw the Falcons across the line in the ninth over, ensuring a dominant 10 wicket victory to secure a place in Finals Day.

The 21st August sees the Falcons travel to Weston-super-Mare to compete in Finals Day of Somerset's ECB Under 19 T20 Competition. Further details will be announced when received.

Thanks to Kilmington for hosting this match, and to all the Frome volunteers throughout the campaign.
