Frome Falcons secured their second win on the bounce after a convincing 81 run victory against Midsomer Norton Greencaps.

After the visitors chose to field first, Joe Smart, like last week, utilised the early overs of powerplay to get Frome off to a flyer. The second over went for 20 runs as he launched a brace of sweetly struck maximums.

It wasn't until the score had progressed onto 32 when Smart skied the ball to point off L Bowen-Jones (1-38) to depart for 27 off 14 balls. Frome went on to end the 6 overs of powerplay on 46-1.

Jake Barrow joined Sam Croker, and they added 55 runs together for the second wicket. Croker was the next man out though, stumped by J Rodd off H Veale (1-22) for 29 off 31 deliveries.

Barrow was going nicely though, and accompanied now by Dan Lock, they looked to amount an imposing score. Barrow moved into the 40's with a six, before he made his way to a fantastic 50 off 45 balls, meaning he had to retire.

Paddy Hyams was aggressive from the off though, and he scored 15 off 9 balls, departing soon after Lock was caught for 37 from 27. M Francis (2-21) accounted for both of their wickets.

Matt Knight (4) and Isaac Wood (1) were the not out Frome batsmen, as the 20 overs concluded with the score 186-4.

In response, the Greencaps never really got going. Knight made sure that early inroads were made from the Falcons, as he picked up a couple scalps to reduce the visitors to 13-2.

After advancing to 36-2 at the end of the powerplay, Frome made their next breakthrough with the score on 46- Taylor Angell (1-20) having J Rodd caught my Arthur Harman at point.

Skipper, Mark Watts then weighed in with a wicket which left the Greencaps 49-4. The required run rate was by now ever increasing as the Falcons attained a stranglehold on the match.

The fifth wicket came with the score on 76, as superb work from Smart in the covers, saw M Francis run out for 5. Lock's (1-3)spin then claimed a wicket too, castling C Glendenning for 8, in what was a wicket maiden over.

The return of Knight (3-16) claimed the Falcons seventh wicket, before Watts (3-12) claimed the wicket of H Veale for 46 (66 balls). Then with the last ball of the match, Watts' third wicket was caught by Woodruff at mid-on, of which left the score 105-9 off 20 overs.

This ultimately gave Frome an 81 run victory, leaving the Falcons with a perfect start to the ECB Under 19 T20 competition. It was a fitting result with the wonderful honorary bench in memory of Graham Barnes, on show for the first time.

There are so many people to thank for this event. All the people who helped arrange and play the music, the people manning the BBQ all evening, the scorers and umpires officiating, and everyone else that lend a helping hand- thank you for your help.

A special thanks go to those who donated food for the barbeque, with Penleigh Butchers, Fromefield Co-Op, Westway Co-Op and William's Butchers all providing generous offers.

And of course, thanks to everyone that came to watch and support the Falcons, it was superb to see so many people enjoying a Friday night at the cricket.

The same time next week, it would be fantastic to see you all in attendance again, with Frome Falcons hosting Hampset Scorpions at Fromefield.
