Frome Sunday Development XI's batting let them down after some good work was produced in the field by the Showmen.

After losing the toss, Frome picked up the first wicket with the score on 19; Mark Watts (1-24) had Matt Hubbard caught by Sam Croker for 8.

46 was added for the second wicket, before Naveed Asim removed Russ Wakefield for 32.

Once the visitors reached the hundred mark though, Frome began to make inroads through the opposition. Spin proved profitable for Frome, with Dan Weston bowling impressively to claim figures of 2-24 off of seven overs. This was followed by Croker, who likewise was bowling good lengths.

From the other end, Mark Sanger (1-36) was deposited for a two successive sixes to the short straight boundary, before getting his man by bowling Mark Branton (26) in the same over.

Aaron Woodruff (1-1) found the edge of John Courtney's bat to have him caught by Robin Lett at slip, before Croker returned to claim the final wicket of Keynsham's innings. James Unwin's second catch off of the spinner handed him figures of 4-28.

In response, Frome never really gathered momentum in chasing down the score of 178 that was posted by the visitors. Both Woodruff (6) and Croker (10) found the cover boundary, before falling to leave the hosts 38-2.

Joe Smart and Unwin set about leading a recovery well, before the latter departed leg before for 17 with the score on 70.

New Frome player Paddy Hyams (7) and Smart (29) were then caught- to leave Frome struggling on 85-5.

Sanger and Watts offered some more resistance, helping the score into three figures.

However, with the score on 113- Frome collapsed. A hat-trick from Paul Robbins (4-28) dented the hopes of the Showmen. Watts was caught behind for 3, before Asim and Weston were the other victims to the spinner.

With just two more runs on the board, Robbins collected his fourth wicket when Sanger skied the ball to be out for 13.

With one wicket left, Robin Lett strode to the crease. Him and Ethan Cox put on a valiant last wicket partnership to try and save the match; Lett was showing his class by smashing the ball to all parts.

However, when Russ Wakefield (1-36) bowled Cox for 2- Frome were all out for 161. As a result, Keynsham attained victory by 17 runs.

Frome Sunday XI don't have a fixture next Sunday, but they are next in action the following week- hosting Old Bristolians Westbury on Sunday 5th June.

Next Saturday, Frome 2nd XI are in action at Fromefield- welcoming Wembdon 2nd XI. The 1st team play Wembdon 1st's on their turf.
