Joe Smart hit an unbeaten 63 for Frome, whilst Charlie Smith hit 59- but the late afternoon's rain ensured that no result was possible at Lansdown.

After electing to bat first, Sam Croker and Mark Watts made a solid start for Frome before the latter was bowled for 7.

79 runs were added when Charlie Smith joined Croker though. The opener departed for 28 but played some textbook strokes in the knock- none less than a late cut through backward point that raced away for four.

Smith then went with the score on 121. His 59 included 7 fours and 2 sixes. Joe Smart established himself at the crease though and batted through the innings.

He was supported by Ryan Gullock (12), Paddy Hyams (15) and Aaron Woodruff (13) as Frome looked to construct a solid score.

After Smart launched 4 sixes to accompany his 5 fours, Frome closed their 40 over allocation on 235-6. Matt Knight was unbeaten on 3 along with Smart on 63.

In reply, a superb start came when Smith had D Veal caught behind by Hyams for a duck. Fellow opener Knight had skipper Reece Croker (13) caught by Woodruff at backward square-leg.

Left-arm bowler Smith (2-27) then reduced the hosts to 56-3 when Watts held a catch in the deep.

There was time for Watts to send Tom Hankins back to the pavilion for 19 when Hyams took his second catch of the match- but the drizzle turned into persistent rain which ensured no further play was possible after 15 overs. Lansdown were 90-4.

Both teams share the spoils from this match, attaining two points each.

In a fortnight's time, Frome Sunday Development XI travel to Bath.
