3rd XI slip to disappointing defeat at home

13 May 2019

After the first week win at Wembdon, Frome 3's slipped to  Disappointing defeat at home to Temple Cloud 2nd XI. Winning the toss Frome asked the visitors to bat first on a pitch that looked like it would assist the bowlers. This proved to be correct as Brook picked up the first wicket bowling Comer with a ball that kept low. Scoring was diffulcult but some undisciplined bowling allowed the score to keep moving for the visitors. Frome kept plugging away with 17 year old debutant Smith providing the hihlights with economical figures, A flurry of late wickets from Brown and C R Dredge brought the visitors innings to an end on 142-9 off their 40 overs.

Following the usual excellent tea Frome started their innings but found scoring diffilcult, losing early wickets with the top four going early leaving Frome on 35-5, again it was 17 year old Smith along with the slightly older C R Dredge who rebuilt the innings and inch Frome towards the total, Smith fell for an excellent 26, Dredge took the attack to the bowlers but hit one to long on and was caught for 21. This left Frome teetering on 80-9 but a last wicket partnership between Brown and Bracher nearly got the hosts over the line but alas, it was not to be as the last wicket fell with the score on 128.

Next up is a trip to Winscombe for the threes and hopefully a return to winning ways.
