Pearson shines as Threes get off to winning start
Frome CC 3rd xi started the 2019 league season with a 55 run victory against their 3rd xi counterparts at Wembdon Cricket Club,
On their first visit to the marvellous new facilities at the green at Wembdon, skipper Larder lost the toss and Frome were asked to bat on what looked like a good pitch. This proved to be so as Frome’s openers Larder and Pearson found the fast outfield to their liking, finding the boundary regularly before Larder fell to a smart caught and bowled to Smith. Pearson carried on alongside Coy in a partnership before Coy fell for 24 with Pearson falling agonisingly short of what would of been a great century for an excellent 96. Cameos from Cox, CR Dredge and Baldwin getting Frome to maximum batting points finishing on 205-6 from their 40 overs and a well deserved and excellent tea.
Following the interval Frome took to the field knowing that boundary protection and tight bowling were the key to defending their total and so it proved with the evergreen CR Dredge and the slightly younger Cox bowling good lines, not letting Wembdon get off to a quick start, Dredge picked up the first wicket bowling smith for 4. A good partnership was built by the hosts before Ford got the breakthrough bowling E Savage for 29. C Savage continued the fight for the hosts before being bowled for 54 by Brown, this opened the door for Frome as Brook and Brown ran through the Wembdon lower order with 3 wickets each to dismiss the hosts for 150.
Frome 3rd XI return to action on Saturday when they host Temple Cloud 2nd XI at Mells.
