Hello everyone - we hope this communication finds you all safe and well.
We appreciate that things have been fairly quiet since the drive to get everyone signed up to Coacha. This is partly due to there not being that much new to update you on – since the UK lockdown was announced there has been no indication from the WEPL or Somerset League when the cricket season can hope to commence and clubs can reopen.
Pre-season fixtures have sadly been cancelled the last three weekends and it has been frustrating to see some glorious weather grace an empty Fromefield with club cricket remaining suspended for the time being. However, with this weekend seeing the beginning of May and what would have been the start of the club’s League season we thought it might be a good time to get in touch.

The ECB has recently announced that the start of the Professional cricket season will remain suspended until at least 1st July. Whilst nothing official has been released regarding a potential start date for the recreational game, it would be very surprising if club cricket doesn’t follow a similar timeline. With the situation constantly evolving it is important we remain flexible and able to respond to whatever route the season takes us.
Consequently we are still preparing for a sudden commencement of cricket later in the summer by maintaining our facilities, but making sure we have financial contingencies in place to deal with a worst-case scenario of no action at all in 2020.
We will keep you informed as and when we receive further information.
Many thanks to those who have already kindly paid their membership fees or set up direct debits to help the club with some vital income during this difficult time. We understand this is a challenging period for everyone and your support is greatly appreciated – this will make a big difference and help the club get back on track once we get through this.
We understand that this may not be possible for everyone, however if you are in a position to help us by paying your 2020 membership fees we would be eternally grateful.
Please get in contact for ways to pay or donate to Frome CC
We will not be requesting Youth membership fees in 2020 at present due to the uncertainty of when restrictions will be lifted, hopefully we will be able to offer some kind of Youth structure and sessions later in the summer. If you would like to donate to the club in lieu of Youth membership of course we would be very grateful!
Please see the link further down this notification for details how to donate.
Whilst we have taken steps to reduce our expenditure as much as possible, it is essential that we generate whatever income we can to keep the club functioning during this period of indefinite hibernation.
This will make a big difference.
We are continuing to prepare and maintain the facilities so that we’re ready to hit the ground running should the season suddenly get underway. A big thankyou to Clive Hamblin for keeping the square at Frome and Mells in preparation for play, Willy Clark for ensuring the ever-improving outfields remain well trimmed and Nick Larder & Paul Sanger, for venturing out to keep it watered in the recent dry spells.
In addition, our sincerest thankyous to the following people for taking shifts to paint the boundary fence and railings.
· Robin Lett
· Asa Wilkinson
· Gary Smart
· Mark Watts
· Scott Lewis
· Paul Sanger
· Steve Watts
All of the above has contributed to Fromefield looking immaculate during this strange pre season, let’s all keep mucking in where we can to keep it that way!
We are taking this opportunity of lockdown to give the clubhouse a lick of paint and clean in readiness for re-opening hopefully soon, so far the lounge area, bar, hall & ladies toilets have all received a coat of paint and general redecoration, a big thank you to Mike Cooper and Colin Dredge for the painting, Nicki Brook for deep cleaning the kitchen and Caragh Handford for stripping and painting behind the bar, you will notice a big difference when you are next in!, however there is still plenty to be done, Gents toilets and kitchen are next to be painted, along with the external walls of the clubhouse, If you can spare an hour or two to help out, paint a wall or two or clean then please get in contact and we will arrange a time with you, rest assured we will always follow government guidelines and social distancing.
Pass the Ball Challenge
Congratulations to all involved with the recent ‘Pass the Ball’ Challenge, allowing the club to come together and put some smiles on faces.
In particular many thanks to Lucy and Joe for editing all of this together.
Frome CC Podcast
This coming Saturday sees the launch of the Frome CC Podcast series!
Each episode will take a look back at some of the highs and lows of the 2019 season, with different special guests appearing each week. Many thanks to Letty and Reece for putting this together and providing something fun to fill the void in the absence of any live action.
We encourage you all to listen out at 10.00am this coming Saturday (2nd May) for “Episode 01 – Taunton Glory”, reliving the 1s fairy-tale success in the Somerset Major T20 knockout cup..
We hope you enjoy it and if you’re able to make a donation to the club’s gofundme page as an appreciation of their efforts that would be great!
