Following the heavy rain on Friday Frome 3rd xi hosted Churchill 1st XI on a wet wicket at their adopted Mells home looking to get their season back on track following some disappointing results. On field skipper Craig Dredge called correctly and immediately asked the visitors to bat first. This proved vital as expected as scoring was proving difficult thanks to good bowling from the returning Asim and Brook with the latter making the breakthrough via smart catch by Gullock. Regular wickets fell and only some clean hitting from Gilbert got the visitors score to 114-9 off of 40 overs. Wicket takers for Frome were Ford with 3, Dredge and Pearson with 2, Gullock and Brook with 1 each.
The Frome reply got off to a poor start with Knight falling in the second over caught and bowled and like the visitors found scoring difficult, Larder played some crisp shots before being deceived by a slower ball for 9, Pearson and Dredge steadied the ship before falling and it was left to Gullock and Asim to guide Frome home in the 39th over with Gullock making an excellent 41 and Asim 19 not out.
Next up for the 3’s is a trip to Bridgwater Pointers.
