MDespite a few late nerves Frome Seconds put in a strong performance to defeat Cheddar Firsts on Saturday.
After winning an important toss Frome had no hesitation in asking Cheddar to bat however immediate showers delayed the start until 3.30, leaving 30 overs to be faced by each side.
Frome made a tidy start through the returning Knight and Asim, with the first wicket falling to the latter. Change bowlers Arthur Harman and Wheeler then benefited from the tight start, using conditions to their advantage to run through the hosts. Harman’s 4-28 and Wheeler’s 3-13 left the innings in tatters, before Mark Harman’s two wickets wrapped up the innings at 76.
Frome got off to a brisk start as Pinchin and in particular Lewis found early boundaries despite the wet conditions.
Conditions dictated batsmen would come and go, however contributions from Lewis (24) and Paterson (18) ensured Frome cruises towards victory. Despite a late flurry of wickets the result was never in doubt, Frome picking up 31 points with nine overs to spare.
Next week the Seconds host Burnham-on-Sea hoping to maintain their promotion push.
