The Frome Falcons Under-19's secured a place at Finals Day after two great wins at Norton Greencaps on Thursday and Hampset Scorpions on Friday.

In the tenth over, Rustell went big and launched the ball out of the ground, whilst in the twelth over, Patterson, now seeing it really well, hit three successive fours.
- Frome batting vs Hampset

Friday night's match at Hampset was a great game, whereby Hampset proved stiffer opposition than their 5th place position in the group suggested.

After Hampset won the toss, they chose to put the Falcons into bat. They then made some early inroads as Jake Barrow (1) was stumped, and Joe Smart (4) skied a shot to extra-cover.

Frome had plenty of batsmen left in the hutch though, and it was George Patterson and Charlie Rustell that stemmed the flow of wickets by putting on 81 for the third wicket.

They both timed the ball beautifully, and scored at a good rate together. In the tenth over, Rustell went big and launched the ball out of the ground, whilst in the twelth over, Patterson, now seeing it really well, hit three successive fours.

Patterson was eventually run out for an impressive 37 from 35 balls (6 fours), with the score on 97. Shortly after, Rustell retired not out on what was a superb 50 from 47 balls (including 5 fours and 2 sixes).

Late runs were added by Tom Woods (8), Arthur Harman (11 not out) and Sonny Burbidge (6 not out), as the Falcons amounted 143-5 off of their 20 overs. J. Hopes and E. Silcox took two wickets apiece for Hampset.

In response, Hampset put up a valiant effort but the Falcons did well to restrict some very capable batsmen.

The first wicket fell in the first over, when skipper Aaron Woodruff bowled L. Mann off his pads, before Burbidge reduced the hosts to 9-2 after bowling J. Riccio.

Hampset rebuilt somewhat to keep themselves in the game and ended the six-over powerplay on 33-2. The seventh over though, saw Matt Knight remove the remaining opener H. Evans for 5 when he disturbed the stumps.

Frome kept up the pressure, but had to be patient as Hampset rebuilt once more by putting on 46 for the 4th wicket.

However, challenging bowling meant that Hampset couldn't push that run rate up to what was required, Ethan Cox particularly responded very well indeed for the Falcons, as after getting hit for a six and a four off C. MacDonald, his second over went for a miserly three runs.

The next breakthrough came when Burbidge (2-22) returned to dismiss the dangerous MacDonald for 46, as the batsmen skied to Woodruff at mid-on.

From there on, Hampset always looked like they would fall just short, and after a run-out, Hampset were 94-5 but running out of overs.

T. Holman sent Smart (1-13) for a six and a four, but the Falcons' bowler responded well to have him caught next delivery for 32. Wicketkeeper Rustell did well to take the catch- knocking Barrow (coming in from point) down in the process!!

There was one more wicket when Woodruff (2-18) bowled L. MacDonald, before Knight (1-22) bowled a tidy last over to give the Frome Falcons an 18 run victory.

Many thanks to Hampset for laying on a fantastic atmosphere, with music, bar and BBQ- exactly what the NatWest Under 19 T20 Blast is about.

The previous day, the Falcons comfortably secured the win at Midsomer Norton. Sonny Burbidge was the star of the show as he took a superb hat-trick, before Arthur Harman's composed 25 not out secured a 6 wicket win.

The Falcons won the toss on this occasion, and Burbidge's (3-12) hat-trick, via two bowled dismissals and one caught by Patterson- reduced the hosts to 3-3.

Then after sharp work from wicketkeeper Rustell to get a stumping off Woodruff (1-6), Norton Greencaps were 7-4.

Norton did recover somewhat though, but never at a rate that would post a par score, with the Falcons bowlers having good economy rates- which thus restricted the Greencaps to 81-6 off their 20 overs.

Matt Knight (2-10) claimed two late scalps for the Falcons as he bowled well at the death, whilst young Ollie Brook bowled a terrific over which only went at a run a ball. R. Hobbs did very well to hold the host's innings together as he hit 53 before having to retire not out.

In response, Joe Smart got things going well as he struck 29, including 4 fours and a six, before he was bowled by R. Hobbs (2-18). The bowler then had Rustell adjudged leg before without scoring, and along with H Veal already bowling Woods (3) prior- Frome were 38-3.

George Patterson and Arthur Harman put on 35 for the fourth wicket though and had put Frome into a commanding position when the former was run out for 15.

Harman (25) remained unbeaten alongside Barney Latham (2 not out) at the end to see the team across the line and to secure a six wicket victory.

The resultant two wins in two days ensured that the Falcons secured Finals Day in style, which will be on Sunday 20th August at Uphill Castle and Weston-super-Mare Cricket Clubs.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered and supported the Falcons so far this campaign- it really is appreciated!!
